Word StudyThlibō, the verb behind being afflicted or pressed, describes constricting pressure. In 2 Corinthians 4, pressure is real, yet it does not erase God’s sustaining presence or resurrection hope.

THE DEVOTION

Second Corinthians says believers are afflicted but not crushed, perplexed but not driven to despair, persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed. Paul does not call pressure pleasant, and he does not say oil only comes through crushing.

Gethsemane was an olive grove whose name is associated with an oil press, but Scripture does not turn every trauma into a divine press designed to produce ministry power. Abuse, violence, neglect, and preventable harm should be resisted, reported, treated, and grieved.

God can sustain and redeem without being named as the author of every wound. Christian hope seeks safety, medical care, counseling, justice, rest, and community while trusting that suffering does not have the final word.

If pressure has narrowed your world, do not measure faith by how much more you can endure alone. Reach for help. Protect life. Tell the truth. The lamp may be surrounded, but in Christ you are not abandoned.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

God of sustaining mercy, meet all who live under pressure. Lead them toward safety, treatment, justice, rest, and faithful companionship. Keep us from romanticizing harm and let the resurrection life of Jesus hold us when strength is small.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

BENEDICTION

May the God who does not forsake the pressed surround you with help, truth, and resurrection hope.
