Word StudyCrafty, shrewd, subtle — strikingly, the same root can mean 'prudent' in Proverbs. The danger is that this craft looks like wisdom. Deception rarely arrives dressed as a lie. It arrives dressed as insight, quoting the very Word it means to bend.
THE DEVOTION
The oldest attack on faith was not a bold denial of God. It was a question. 🐍 “Did God actually say...?” The serpent, arum, does not begin by contradicting the Word. He begins by editing it — inviting Eve to reconsider it, to hold it at arm's length and inspect it for flaws. The first weapon ever used against Scripture was Scripture, slightly bent.
This is why mere familiarity with the Bible is not the same as discernment. The serpent knew the command. He referenced it. He simply reframed it, moved the emphasis half an inch — and half an inch is all he needed. The enemy has never once changed this method. ⚠️
Eve's error was not ignorance of the Word. It was that she entered a debate about the Word on the serpent's terms. She let the questioner set the frame. And the Sugar-Free Gospel™ warns without apology: you can be biblically literate and still be spiritually deceived, if you let the wrong voice do the interpreting.
So do not just memorize the verse. 📖 Submit to it before the questioner ever arrives. Knowing the command did not protect Eve — trusting the One who spoke it would have. Know His voice so well that every counterfeit falls flat the moment it opens its mouth.
